Hazards: Weather: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments: This was a partnership trip with San Jose ICO The group home kids always come in with a lot of defensiveness and displays of bad attitude. I know from experience that once they realize that all we're trying to do is have a good time, that eventually they warm up to the task. On Saturday we put in at Marshall Gold and took out at Greenwood. I found out we were not supposed to use this put-in without special permsision, but the ranger allowed us to do it. Using Greenwood as a take-out may also now be "illegal" but it is ambiguous. In any case, I did it due to group cohesion reasons, which is related to safety -- we had a number of issues to work through that would have potentially caused disasters in the Gorge. On Sunday, we ran Chili Bar. All the participants rafted, including the ones who were afraid to go on Saturday. This was a real accomplishment. Everyone had a really good time and everyone was very grateful for the experience. Once again we turned a hodgepodge collection of individuals into a family and a team in 2 days. Everyone had a perfect run at Troublemaker, the first time I've seen this is a long time on an ICO trip. Kelly sprained her knee there but is doing fine as of this trip report. We had an ATG/guest (Lisa Katzman) and a potential trainee/ATG (her son Jesse, forgot his last name but it is no Katzman). Two of the SJ-ICO folks are going to join us for guide training in the spring (one is an ATG, actually).
