THE WEEKLY ICO UPDATER (WICOU pronounced Why-COO)

 

 

 

Gooood Moooorning ICO!  I love the smell of river in the morning.  Welcome to another glorious week of ICO Rafting news! Lots of news this week.

 

The Weekly Update: April6 - 12, 2015.

 

New Updates:

1.       Monthly Newsletter can be found on our internal website here

 

2.      Reminder – Wednesday April 8, 2015:  ICO Chair Phone call will have Teresa Bria presenting about our bake sale success. 

 

3.      2015 Sierra Club National Volunteer Award Nominations: Each year the sierra club takes nominations for volunteer awards.  Is there someone in ICO Rafting that you think goes above and beyond?  Do you think they deserve additional recognition for their work?  Please go to the below clubhouse link if you would like to nominate someone or learn more about the available awards.  They Madeline Pyatt, one of our founders, Award is specifically geared toward ICO and has a monetary gift associated with it.http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/people/leaders/awards.aspx

 

4.      Sign up for the Pre-Season Trips: Spring Boating has arrived!  Are you as excited as I am?  You have read about them in the Newsletter, they are going to be awesome, epic, fun and educational.  Who doesn’t want to test out the spring waters, see their fellow ICOer, learn new fun stuff, shake off the rust, test out the recovering limbs, and have a glorious time?  These trips shall be sensational!  Sign up, sign up, sign up! 

 

5.      Peak Adventure: Sunday May 3rd ICO is invited to Sacramento State to Participate on the challenge (ropes) course.  The program being offered will focus on helping ICO cultivate the following:

 

a.      Improved organizational communication

b.      Improved safety recognition

c.       Improved cohesion between ICO Personnel

 

Two senior facilitators will be place on this program to ensure an optimal educational experience.  The day will consist of some of the following:

a.      Interactive warm up games

b.      Indepth initiative games

c.       Climbing objectives

 

Each part of the day will be broken down with a discussion as to how and why various activities are used to create an optimal experience for our future participants.  Overall the day will be an excellent chance for ICO personnel to get together, have fun and hopefully help improve how we operate.  Sign up here.  Sign up deadline is April 16th.  Please contact Kate with any questions.

 

6.      April River Mtg Minutes: These are coming soon to the ICO internal website.  Lots to read and learn about, including the rough draft of the new structure.  Please read and provide questions and feedback!

 

Older Updates:

 

1.      Our very own Teresa Bria will be presenting on the ICO Chair phone call geared toward mid-level fundraising (2k-5k).  The call is scheduled for April 7th or 8th  (TBD) at 5pm PST.   Please contact  Kate at kate@icorafting.org or 415-999-7671 for the call in number if you are interested in hearing Teresa talk about the work involved in putting on our bake sales. 

 

2.      WICOU on the website!  The WICOU will be posted here on the ICO Website.

 

3.      The SOPs REVISIONS are moving forward.  Ryan and his team are working diligently to meet the May deadline of a rough draft.  If you have any questions about the goal/intent of the revisions, please contact Kate Starr.  A rough draft should be ready for the May or June River Mtg.

 

4.      The ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURE, a task intended to better organize how off-river volunteerism is structured, is underway.  A rough draft will be presented at the April River Mtg.  Roles for each group will be outlined.  Input is encouraged and welcome!

 

5.      Ross Garner is working with PEAK ADVENTURES to develop a fantastic training on group cohesion and safety that will culminate with a fun ropes course.  The training is on Sunday May 3, 2015.  You can sign up on the trip list , it should be posted within a week or so.  Ross will be sending an e-mail with more information and details.  THANK YOU ROSS.

 

6.      SWIFTWATER RESCUE is being offered w/ Julie Munger combined with the Healing waters group.  It is being held on May 2-3, 2015.  Please contact Brian O’Neil  for further information on how to sign up for that training.  THANK YOU BRIAN.

 

7.      SPRING RIVER TRIPS:  There are 3 spring river trips to break off the winter rust, provide some space for additional training to volunteers, and provide a fun group bonding experience.  These trips are set up to be fun, yet educational.  Does this sound too much like PBS?  2 trips are on the SFA to work on individual skills, 1 is on the Rogue to allow people to see a new river and learn more about expedition trips. ALL THREE OF THE TRIPS ARE SET UP FOR PEOPLE TO RECONNECT WITH THE ICORAFTING COMMUNITY.  If you have been away from the group for a while and want to get back into the swing of ICO , these trips are for you.  If you have boated every weekend this winter, these trips are for you.  Please go online and sign up for these trips if you are interested.  If you have any questions, please contact the respective trip leaders.

 

8.      The TRIP CALENDAR has been set!  Please sign up for trips.  The trips should be available for sign up by the end of next week!   We have currently calendared 12 trips.  The participant season starts in early May and continues thru Mid September.  Time to bust out the Sun Block, funny hats and get ready to go a-boatin!

 

9.      MONTHLY NEWSLETTER - We are going to re-institute a monthly news letter.  Bill Weinberg is heading up this endeavor.  Anyone who would like to assist, provide articles, editing support, computer skillz, photos, etc please reach out to Bill.  THANK YOU BILL!
