Howdy Ho my river loving friends,

Because I have a penchant for triva, we’ll be kicking off this week’s Wicou with a couple of random trivia facts.   Please provide suggestions for other trivia subjects.

Did you know:

·         Water can dissolve more substances than any other liquid including sulfuric acid.

·         There is more fresh water in the atmosphere than in all of the rivers on the planet combined.

·         The average faucet flows at a rate of 2 gallons per minute.  You can save up to four gallons of water every morning by turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth.

·         American residents use about 100 gallons of water per day

·         It takes more water to manufacture a new car (39,090 gallons) than to fill an above ground swimming pool.

·         A gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds.

This week’s fun facts were brought to you by our friends at the EPA.  To learn more please visit their website

2.      Wilderness First AID: June 27/28th  Bobbie Foster is hosting a WFA class at Hanna Boys Center for ICO.  This is a 3-yr certification which is great to have both for ICO and anytime you are out in the wilderness.  The Sign up Deadline is May 25th.  You can sign up on our ICO Trips Page.  Cost is $100 for the class, but if you sign up for this one, ICO will be subsidizing our volunteers so the cost is only $60.  Please contact Natasha to sign up.

6.      Peak Adventures: A wonderful time was had at Sac State this weekend where ICO volunteers learned about creating a culture of safety and cooperation.  Methods to better engage our participants as well as how we as a group can better support each other.  And then there was wall climbing, high wire crossings, and platform dives to be conquered.  Everyone really enjoyed learning about how other groups deal with similar issues and situations.  Thank You Ross for getting this set up.

7.      FOR's California Rivers Day on Monday May 11.  There are tables available for organizations.  Each organization will be acknowledged at a rally.  If you are available to spend May 11th at an ICO table please let me (Kate Starr) know and I will get you intouch with FOR to reserve a table.
