Compliance Instructions

This is a quick guide for new volunteers, returning volunteers, and anyone else looking for a simple instruction manual for compliance. This covers Guides, Apprentices, ATAs and Trip Leaders seeking Guide status. (Maintaining or regaining lapsed TL status is more complicated. Better contact Ryan for info on that.)

• Become a member of the Sierra Club. If your membership is expired, renew it. Tell Ryan your membership number. We can use it to verify your membership with The Sierra Club.

• Read & Sign the ICO Code of Ethics. Mail it to Ryan.

  • This form describes appropriate behavior on ICO trips.

• Read & Sign the Sierra Club Outings Volunteer Agreement. Mail it to Ryan.

  • This form spells out your relationship with The Sierra Club, and includes legal waivers of your rights. Read it carefully.

• If you are over 18, then fill out and sign the Information Release. Include your SSN on a separate slip of paper. Mail it to Ryan.

  • This form gives ICO permission to perform Criminal and DMV background checks. Ryan will perform the checks and notify you of the results. After the checks are complete, Ryan will shred the slip of paper with your SSN.

• Get certified in CPR. Scan your certification card and email it to Ryan. Photocopies are also acceptable.

• Get certified in Standard First Aid or higher. Scan your certification card and email it to Ryan. Photocopies are also acceptable.

That's it! Be sure to turn in everything to Ryan.
