THE WEEKLY ICO UPDATER (WICOU pronounced Why-COO)

 

 

Below are organizational updates, the answers to last week’s trivia, and new trivia.  Please let me know of any updates you would like added to the WICOU.

 

Last Week’s Trivia Answers:

 

1.      How long after an ICORafting trip do the Waiver Forms need to be kept on file?

a.      6.5 years (as stated in the WICOU)

2.      Which three certifications/cards does a volunteer need to be allowed to guide on a participant trip? (1 point for each correct answer)

The Weekly Update: July 20– July 26, 2015.

 

Current Updates:

 

 

1.      Upcoming Trips: 

a.      Cameron House Trip: July 25th, on the SFA.  Natasha is looking for more guides for this trip.  Please sign up online or contact her directly at natasha.abeygunawardena@icorafting.org.  Cameron House empowers generations of Chinese American individuals and their families to fully participate in and contribute positively toward a healthy society

b.      AARS-SF: August 8th & 9th, on the SFA. 

 

2.      Outreach Coordinator Needed:

a.      Anthony Scott, who has fearlessly done our outreach and calendaring of late has decided to step down from this role.  Thank you Anthony for all you have done and do for ICO Rafting.  In his absence a new Outreach Coordinator is needed.  The Outreach Coordinator’s job currently: Send applications to partner agencies, both existing and new agencies suggested by ICO volunteers, receive/review the applications, set up a calendar meeting with the trip leaders, send out response letters to all partner agencies who applied.  The position can also be expanded to work with the agencies more.  Additional support can be solicited from other volunteers.

b.      Please contact Kate Starr and/or Anthony Scott if you have any questions or are interested in taking on this job.

 

3.      Veteran Trip will happen in August.  This was discussed at the July River mtg, you can see the discussion on the July River Meeting Minutes on the internal website.  THIS TRIP NEEDS A TRIP LEADER!  And Guides.  Let Kate Starr know if you are interested and which wknds you are available.

 

4.      Happy Birthday this week:

a.      Please wish a happy birthday to: Billy Tu and Zach Carlson

b.      Please let me know your birthday so I may add it to the WICOU. 

 

Older Updates:

 

1.      NBCUniversal/LNESC Scholarship Program Call for Applicants:  I sent this e-mail out Wednesday June 24th from the Sierra Club.

a.      The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC) would like to invite you to apply to the 2015 NBCUniversal/LNESC Scholarship program. Sponsored by NBCUniversal, LNESC will award ten (10) national scholarships of $5,000 to qualified Latino high school seniors and undergraduate students planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree at U. S. post-secondary institutions. Students majoring in business, film, journalism, graphic design, human resources, information technology, marketing, music programming, television, or web design are strongly encouraged to apply. 2.      Participant Waiver Forms:

a.      There are Spanish language waiver forms available on the Sierra Club Website. 

b.      Trip leaders, please make sure all waiver forms are given to Kate Starr to be filed.  ICORafting needs to hang onto these for 6-1/2 years for liability protection.

 

3.      Diversity Equity and Inclusion Discussion: Monday June 22 a discussion was had at Bill Weinberg’s house about why ICO Rafting and the Sierra Club are talking about diversity, equity and inclusion. How organizational culture, social justice and environmental justice are connected.  There shall be more meeting to delve further into what DEI means for ICORafting, how we as volunteers can be a more welcoming group.  How do we as an organization embrace and encourage diversity within?  Stay Tuned for more info.

 

 

4.      The SOPs REVISIONS are moving forward.  Ryan and his team are working diligently to create a rough draft.  If you have any questions about the goal/intent of the revisions, please contact Kate Starr.
