The Weekly Update: June 22 – June 28, 2015.

Current Updates:

1.      Benicia Day School and the Heartwood Middle School KIPP: Thank you Vinny and Chris Thorsen and the numerous guides for leading these two groups down the river.  I heard that it was a good time, but be prepared for a strenuous take out at Salmon Falls.  Low Lake levels really make it a long hill to the parking lot.

2.      Upcoming Trips:  Richmond Sol Cobras: July 4th & 5th ICO shall be joining the Richmond Sol Cobras for a two day trip on the SFA.  This is a great group, the families join the participants at camp and make a whole weekend of it.

3.      Environmental Science Academy Oakland High Trip: Due to a slight paperwork SNAFU the O-High trip has been rescheduled for July 18th & 19th.  It should be added to the calendar soon.  Please check in with Kevin Jordan if you can guide that weekend.

4.      Birthdays (Thank You Facebook):

a.      Happy Belated Birthday to Teresa Bria!  Please wish her a happy birthday, but back date it to June 5.

b.      Happy Birthday this week:  PLEASE let me know of any/all birthdays that I am missing so I may add them to the WICOU.

5.      Veteran Participant Groups:  The response via survey monkey was that the majority would like to investigate including a veteran group to our participant trips.  At this point, a task force has been set up to work with the Sierra Club’s veteran outreach coordinator to identify groups that meet our scope of no/limited access to the outdoors.

6.      July River Mtg LOCATION TBD let Kate know if you can host: We will hold the  July River Mtg on July 8th (due to both the holiday wknd and the late notice) to discuss:

a.      The Feasibility of holding a mini training weekend exclusively for participants.

b.      Veterans: What does at risk mean?

c.       Trip Updates/stories for all trips thus far this season.

7.      Diversity Equity and Inclusion Discussion: Monday June 22 at Bill Weinberg’s house we shall be meeting to discuss why ICO Rafting and the Sierra Club are talking about diversity, equity and inclusion. How organizational culture, social justice and environmental justice are connected.

Older Updates:

1.      BAKE SALE May 16 & 17th: Natalie MacIntyre, rocked this event yet again.  We made approximately $2,200.  Again a big thank you to everyone who helped bake and/or table the event and especially to Natalie.

2.      Wilderness First AID: June 27/28th  Bobbie Foster is hosting a WFA class at Hanna Boys Center for ICO.  This is a 3-yr certification which is great to have both for ICO and anytime you are out in the wilderness.  The Sign up Deadline is May 25th.  You can sign up on our ICO Trips Page.  Cost is $100 for the class, but if you sign up for this one, ICO will be subsidizing our volunteers so the cost is only $60.  Please contact Natasha to sign up.

3.      April River Mtg Minutes: These are coming soon to the ICO internal website.  Lots to read and learn about, including the rough draft of the new structure.  Please read and provide questions and feedback! (KATE is still working on the minutes/Org Chart)

4.      The SOPs REVISIONS are moving forward.  Ryan and his team are working diligently to meet the May deadline of a rough draft.  If you have any questions about the goal/intent of the revisions, please contact Kate Starr.  A rough draft should be ready for the May or June River Mtg.

5.      The ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURE, a task intended to better organize how off-river volunteerism is structured, is underway.  A rough draft will be presented at the April River Mtg.  Roles for each group will be outlined.  Input is encouraged and welcome!

Until Next Week.
