HBC is a large boys group home in  Sonoma. Jon Wurl met the group leader while recerting his WFR last Winter.   Overall the kids were very good. They are the most curious group I have ever  taken rafting. They had non-stop questions about what adventures and excitement  were coming next. In particular, they were looking forward to Jumping Rock.  Several boys expressed strong interest in joining ICO next season.   The Group Leader, Kerry, was also very good -- communicative, flexible, and  well organized. She was trying to run the trip cheaply, and has mostly a  backpacking background, so she ran the trip without any ice, which combined to mean the  lunch was very slightly sub-par. But other than that, she did a great job.   We camped at The Nugget, which was excellent. I recently realized that camping  and putting in at The Nugget allows for more time to break camp on Sunday  morning, which is VERY welcome.   We had two participant paddle boats, an all-Apprentice boat, and an oar boat.    The trip went off more-or-less without incident. One boy split a finger nail  while paddling (on the D-ring or value cap), and another got a very minor knee  scrape while (voluntarily) swimming Second Threat. The finger nail was taped, and  the knee got a band-aid.    We found one universal PFD that was ripped, and we threw it away. Also, a  thwart bag was ripped on the trip and Ryan Clark took it home for repair.   We made somewhat remarkably good time on Sunday, with Closing Circle at just  after 3:00pm.
